Global leader in digital engineering and enterprise modernization, Persistent Systems (BSE: 533179 and NSE: PERSISTENT), announced today that it has achieved carbon neutrality for Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions) across its global operations for FY23–24, one year ahead of schedule. This achievement, which was confirmed by DNV Business Assurance India Private Limited, highlights the company’s dedication to sustainability and its function in aiding clients’ environmental objectives. Complying with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and worldwide endeavors to contain global warming to 1.5°C and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, it reinforces Persistent’s standing as an organization committed to social responsibility.

The primary goals of Persistent’s carbon management plan are to increase energy efficiency by developing energy-efficient infrastructure and investing in renewable energy sources that have earned certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The company has achieved great progress in the use of renewable energy and resource management: two 2.1 MW windmills and two 2 MW solar rooftops have reduced emissions by 42%. About 39% of the energy used worldwide comes from renewable sources, with 44% coming from India.

The self-generated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from its windmills provide about 16% of the required amount of renewable energy.
Less than half of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) acquired are for plants that are leased or located abroad.

99.9% of the garbage produced by all operations is recycled.
\ 121,035 trees that help sequester carbon. \ 28.3% of treated wastewater that is reused within the company’s owned campuses.
Persistent has also made investments in premium carbon credits that have been VERRA-certified in order to offset Scope 1 emissions, and it has reduced Scope 2 emissions by sourcing renewable energy and acquiring I-RECs.

Persistent is dedicated to promoting the use of renewable energy, maximizing energy efficiency, and collaborating with local communities to combat climate change. The Company ensures long-term effect by integrating sustainability at the core of its operations through collaboration with stakeholders and workers. In addition, Persistent supports environmental activities and reduces emissions through its investments in carbon offset programs and renewable energy projects. By 2050, it hopes to achieve net-zero emissions throughout its value chain by adhering to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) roadmap.
