San Francisco Closing the loop on circular textiles is Allied Home, a vertical manufacturer of high-end home goods, and Coyuchi, a pioneer in organic home goods.

Together, the businesses have designed a completely circular pillow utilizing recycled feathers from Coyuchi items that are returned at the end of their useful lives. This is how it operates.

  • Coycuchi’s 2nd Home Renewed take-back program, which recycles and repurposes returned Coyuchi products for future use and sale, is the source of the recycled feathers utilized in the brand’s new Down Feather Lumbar Pillow Insert.
  • Allied Home receives the extra filling from returned goods and uses a special cleaning procedure to restore the filing to like-new condition.
  • The pillow insert, which comes in a new 14×20 lumbar size and is wrapped in a 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton shell, expands Coyuchi’s product line.

Coyuchi’s feather and down goods now have a 100% closed loop cycle thanks to the introduction of the new product. Alongside the Full Circle Blanket, which was introduced in 2020, the Down Feather Lumbar Pillow Insert is the most recent development in Coyuchi’s continuous endeavor to produce new goods using recycled materials.

Marcus Chung, COO of Coyuchi, stated, “We are not only reducing waste but also giving our customers the best, sustainable bedding options by prolonging the life of down and feather materials.”

Ahead of impending sustainability regulations in Europe that will mandate that vertical retail and direct-to-consumer companies return and recycle their goods by 2025, our collaboration establishes a standard for the US industry. The parent firm of Allied Home, Allied Feather + Down, is already working with European suppliers to increase sustainability.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Coyuchi on this innovative project,” Allied Home COO Nate Hascalovici stated. “We are excited to see this creative strategy gain traction in the soft home market, and our Renew Down & Feather recycling program is a perfect fit with Coyuchi’s sustainability goals.”
