New York: For several of the biggest home textiles shops, third-quarter traffic trended well, but two stood out in particular.

Out of all the home goods shops that Placer.ai reviewed in its Q3 Quarterly Retail Review, HomeGoods was the one that produced the biggest increase in store visits. The TJX Cos. division saw an 8.1% increase in store traffic during the July–September period.

Continuing its impressive run, Costco sailed in with traffic up 7.2% for the same time.

Since the start of 2024, the warehouse club has seen consistently positive year-over-year (YOY) foot traffic growth each month, according to a separate analysis by Place.ai that examined Costco in great detail.

“Costco saw YOY visits increase by 5.2% – a remarkable accomplishment,” Placer.ai said, despite the fact that retail trips across the country were significantly affected by extremely cold and stormy weather in January.

The Q3 data from the location intelligence business also revealed strong traffic growth for Marshalls (+5.2%), Sam’s Club (+5.2%), TJMaxx (+5.6%), and BJ’s Wholesale (+5.9%).

Leading bargain retailers Target and Walmart saw a slight increase in visitation during that time, with visits up 1.0% and 0.9%, respectively.

Department stores were not included in the most recent study.
