Chicago — According to Numerator, online shopping accounted for the largest portion of Cyber Weekend sales, with 86% of consumers tempted to spend all or part of their money on Amazon.

The consumer insights and data company polled over 6,200 verified shoppers, and more than half of them reported doing all or most of their shopping online. Of those, 31% divided their purchases between in-store and online channels. Only 7% of consumers made all of their purchases in physical stores.

With 29% of expenditures going toward home products like bedding and décor, the category ranked in the top 5, behind grocery, clothing and shoes, cosmetics, and toys and video games.

According to Numerator’s research, the top two online or in-store holiday retailing sources were Walmart (64%) and Target (47%), with department stores coming in fourth at 32% and club stores at 22%, completing the top five. 16% of consumers were attracted to bargain stores like Marshall’s and TJ Maxx.

Customers were in the mood to buy gifts; 38% of them mostly shopped for presents, and nearly one-third (29%) only bought for other people. Seven percent of their purchases did not qualify as gifts.

More than half (52%) of respondents looked for discounts, deals, and coupons during Cyber Weekend, which included Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, due to growing costs; Cyber Monday figures have not yet been included. 61% of respondents claimed to have taken part in pre-Thanksgiving sales as well. 29% of respondents said they had a better notion of what they intended to buy over the weekend thanks to early sales.

Many people’s lists are lower this year since 42% of respondents said they are purchasing fewer gifts for other people and 34% admitted that rising costs for daily necessities have reduced their spare income.

Numerator will provide the full weekend data later this week, including Cyber Monday sales information.
