Culp installs new machinery in its cut-and-sew operation

HIGH POINT: To improve creativity, quality, and customer service at its sewing operation for mattress covers in Haiti, Culp Inc. is investing in new machinery.

To guarantee that products are free of needle metal contamination, the company is installing quilting machines, a flat-pack and roll-pack machine, tape-edge machines, border measure-and-cut technology, border double-head sergers, and metal detectors on sewing lines.

The company said that the improvements would improve the caliber and inventiveness of Culp Home Fashions.

Iv Culp, president and CEO of Culp Home Fashions, stated, “This investment is another step in our growth strategy.” “We can better meet our customers’ needs with unmatched quality and efficiency by providing our team with this effective and varied quilting equipment.”

The action comes after Culp said in May that, as part of a restructuring plan, it will combine its two plants in Haiti into one.

Tommy Bruno, president of Culp Home Fashions, stated, “With this new equipment, which will be operational as of Jan. 1, 2025, we will have cutting-edge capabilities to produce superior quilted covers, reinforcing our leadership in the fabric and sewn cover business for bedding.”

Armando Alfaro, who was recently assigned to manage Culp’s worldwide cut-and-sew bedding operations, was designated director of business development for Culp Home Fashions earlier this year. Alfaro and his management team have over eight years of expertise in the quilted cover sector, making them well-suited to expand the company and improve customer service.

Alongside Alfaro’s appointment, Paige Seadler was recently hired as the division’s director of product marketing, where she will be in charge of project management, cover development, and brand experience. Having led the mattress market for over ten years, Seadler has a wealth of knowledge about retail dynamics, merchandising, and mattress consumers.
