Nepal Invites Indian Investment in Hydropower Projects

The All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and World Trade Center Mumbai recently hosted an interactive session with Ms. Sujata Koirala, Former Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister of Nepal, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties between India and Nepal.

During the meeting, Ms. Koirala extended an invitation to Indian investors to participate in four hydroelectric power projects of 400 MW each, which have already received all necessary approvals and are ready for implementation in Nepal.

Strengthening India-Nepal Economic Ties

Highlighting the deep cultural, religious, and economic ties between the two nations, Ms. Koirala emphasized Nepal’s commitment to economic development and India’s role as a trusted development partner. She stated:

“India and Nepal share similar cultural, religious, and civilizational backgrounds. Our country is on the path of economic growth, and India has been a trusted partner in this journey. My visit to India aims to deepen our cooperation, particularly in hydropower, mining, healthcare, education, and tourism, which hold immense potential for collaboration.”

She assured full support for Indian investors and businesses looking to expand in Nepal, reinforcing the ease of doing business and investment-friendly policies in the country.

Expanding Business and Investment Opportunities

Speaking at the event, Dr. Vijay Kalantri, President of AIAI and Chairman of WTC Mumbai, underscored the strong economic cooperation between India and Nepal.

“India and Nepal are not just neighbors but sister states. India has made significant contributions to Nepal’s infrastructure and hydropower sector, including the purchase of electricity from Nepal.”

Dr. Kalantri assured that AIAI and WTC Mumbai would continue to work towards strengthening partnerships in trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two nations. He also highlighted Nepal’s investment potential in sectors like gold mining, hospitality, and spiritual tourism and encouraged Indian businesses to explore these opportunities.

The event saw participation from key members of the Council of Management of WTC Mumbai, further reinforcing the commitment to fostering Indo-Nepal economic cooperation.
