SOISU Furniture has announced the launch of its new manufacturing facility in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, with an investment of USD 7 million as part of its strategy to strengthen local production capabilities and capture 15% of India’s premium furniture market by 2028.

The new facility marks the company’s transition from an import-driven sourcing model to domestic manufacturing. Initial production operations will focus on recliners, while future expansion phases will include sofas and beds as production capacity scales up.

SOISU plans to develop a fully integrated manufacturing unit with the capacity to handle up to 50 containers per month. The infrastructure has been designed to support future growth in response to rising demand across metro cities and tier-1 markets in India.

The investment will be directed toward advanced manufacturing machinery, raw material sourcing systems and workforce development initiatives. The company will also introduce skill training programmes aimed at enhancing local manufacturing expertise and operational efficiency.

The Bhiwandi facility is expected to generate around 100 direct jobs and approximately 350 indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, logistics and allied sectors, contributing to regional economic development.

Headquartered in Mumbai, SOISU operates in the luxury furniture segment and is known for Italian-inspired bespoke furniture designs made using premium materials such as water-dyed leather, multi-density stacking foam and carbon steel spring systems.

The expansion comes at a time when India’s premium furniture market is witnessing structural changes due to stricter Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) regulations. These updated certification requirements have made low-volume imported furniture less commercially viable, creating opportunities for organised domestic manufacturers.

According to Rohan Shah, Founder of SOISU Furniture, the company’s objective extends beyond reducing imports and focuses on building a globally competitive furniture manufacturing ecosystem within India. He stated that the investment prioritises scalable production, design excellence and long-term value creation.

In addition, SOISU has entered into a planned joint venture with Zuoyou Sofa, also known as We Story, a major global furniture producer with extensive manufacturing capacity and an international retail presence. The partnership is expected to strengthen SOISU’s manufacturing processes and operational expertise in India.

The company aims to develop furniture specifically tailored to Indian consumer preferences while accelerating the growth of an organised, design-focused and locally manufactured premium furniture industry.
