ACPIT initiative aims to strengthen export skills and support MSME participation in global trade

Nirmala Sitharaman launched the Advanced Certificate Programme in International Trade (ACPIT), developed jointly by The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) and EXIM Institute, during the TEXPROCIL Export Awards Function held at Hotel Leela, Grand Ballroom, Andheri East, Mumbai.

The launch took place in the presence of Vrunda M. Desai, Vijay Agarwal, Ravi Sam, senior government officials, exporters, and industry representatives.

According to TEXPROCIL, ACPIT has been designed as an industry-focused certification programme aimed at strengthening trade capabilities within India’s textile export ecosystem and developing skilled export professionals.

The programme seeks to address the need for practical training in international trade by focusing on compliance, documentation, logistics, trade finance, market access strategies, regulatory frameworks, and export-import operations.

ACPIT has been aligned with several government initiatives and policy frameworks, including the Export Promotion Mission (2025), the Foreign Trade Policy, the Skill India Mission, and trade facilitation initiatives linked to ease of doing business.

The certification programme will include eight specialised modules covering:

  • International trade documentation
  • Logistics and supply chain management
  • Export-import compliance
  • Trade finance
  • Government export schemes and incentives
  • Market access strategies
  • Regulatory frameworks
  • Risk management and practical trade operations

The organisers stated that the programme will use case studies, interactive learning formats, expert sessions, and real-world trade scenarios to support practical knowledge development.

The initiative is also intended to support MSMEs, which continue to play a major role in India’s export sector but often face operational and compliance challenges due to limited access to structured trade education.

According to TEXPROCIL, expected outcomes include improved export compliance, greater awareness of global trade practices, stronger use of government incentives, improved operational efficiency, and increased participation of MSMEs in international markets.

The programme is being implemented by TEXPROCIL and EXIM Institute without direct financial support from the government. Participation will be offered on a nominal fee basis.

Vijay Agarwal stated that ACPIT has been designed as a practical initiative to equip exporters with skills required for sustainable export growth.

Ravi Sam said capacity building is becoming increasingly important for export competitiveness, particularly for MSMEs and emerging businesses.

TEXPROCIL stated that the initiative is intended to support India’s export growth objectives, strengthen public-private collaboration in trade capacity building, and develop future-ready export professionals.
