Global recycled polyester textile sector projected to grow at over 8% CAGR through 2032

The global recycled polyester textile market is projected to grow from approximately USD 28.6 billion in 2023 to nearly USD 45 billion by 2032, expanding at a CAGR of around 8–9%, according to data from Marketintelo.

Recycled polyester, primarily produced using post-consumer PET bottles, has increased its share in global polyester production from around 8% in 2015 to more than 15% in 2023, reflecting the textile industry’s increasing focus on circular production systems.

Market Growth and Industry Trends

The market expanded from approximately USD 22.6 billion in 2020 to USD 28.6 billion in 2023, maintaining annual growth rates between 6% and 9% during the period.

According to the report, growth accelerated between 2021 and 2022 due to rising adoption by apparel brands, while 2022–2023 growth remained stable as supply chains normalised.

Over the longer term, the market has nearly doubled from around USD 15 billion in 2015 to USD 28.6 billion in 2023.

Regional Market Dynamics

Asia-Pacific accounted for nearly half of global recycled polyester textile demand in 2023, led by major textile manufacturing countries including China and India.

Europe continues to benefit from strong recycling regulations and PET bottle recycling rates exceeding 70% in several countries, while North America has seen steady growth supported by sustainability initiatives and investment in recycling infrastructure.

The report also noted that Latin America and the Middle East are emerging as developing markets with growth rates above the global average.

Apparel Segment Leads Demand

The apparel segment contributes more than 50% of total market demand, driven by sportswear and fashion brands increasing the use of recycled fibres in their collections.

Other growing application areas include home textiles, automotive interiors, and upholstery products due to the material’s durability and cost efficiency.

Global recycled polyester production reached an estimated 10 million tons in 2023 and is expected to rise further as recycling technologies and PET waste collection systems improve.

Policy Support and Investment

Governments and private companies have increased investments in recycling infrastructure and sustainable textile initiatives.

The report highlighted that several regions have introduced policies mandating recycled content usage, while brands continue setting targets for adopting sustainable and recycled materials by 2030.

Advanced recycling technologies, including chemical recycling, are also expected to support future market expansion.
