Ikea U.S. will close its South Charlotte Plan & Order Point later this summer as the company continues to reshape its retail strategy around digital shopping, home delivery and omnichannel services.

The 15,000-square-foot Plan & Order Point, located at 10844 Providence Road in the Promenade on Providence shopping center, will officially close on August 30. The location opened in 2024 and was designed to help customers plan larger home furnishing projects while providing a convenient order pick-up service.

The closure will not affect Ikea’s main Charlotte store at 8300 Ikea Boulevard, which will continue normal operations.

In a statement, Ikea said the decision reflects its ongoing evaluation of customer needs and long-term investment priorities.

“As part of our strategy to build a more affordable, accessible and sustainable future, Ikea U.S. continuously evaluates how we meet customers’ needs and where we invest for long-term growth,” the company stated.

According to Ikea, changing consumer shopping habits are driving greater investment in digital capabilities, home delivery services and expanded omnichannel experiences rather than smaller physical planning locations.

The retailer added that customers in the Charlotte area will continue to have access to online shopping, home delivery and services through the existing Ikea Charlotte store.

The South Charlotte Plan & Order Point was introduced as part of Ikea’s broader strategy to expand its smaller-format retail concepts, offering design consultation and order collection services without carrying the full range of in-store inventory available at traditional Ikea outlets.

Despite the closure of this location, Ikea said it remains focused on improving customer accessibility through a combination of physical stores, digital platforms and flexible fulfilment options.
