4 Home Decor Trends to Watch for in 2027

Home decor trends can change quickly. Some ideas become popular overnight, while others grow slowly through designer projects and client preferences.

As designers look ahead to 2027, four home decor ideas are beginning to attract attention. These include double-sided throw pillows, pocket door cabinets, book nooks and Roman shades.

The emerging trends combine style with comfort and practical design. They also show a growing interest in making homes feel more personal and functional.

1. Double-Sided Throw Pillows

Throw pillows may soon become more versatile. Designer Madelaine Meyer of ADROIT suggests using two different fabrics on each side of a pillow.

For example, one side can feature a bold pattern, while the other uses a soft, textured fabric. This approach allows homeowners to change the look of a room without buying new cushions.

It can also be a budget-friendly DIY idea. Homeowners can combine two existing pillows and have a tailor create a reversible design.

2. Pocket Door Cabinets

Open shelving has been popular in kitchens, but designers are now looking for ways to hide everyday clutter.

Pocket door cabinets offer a practical solution. The doors can slide away when the shelves are needed and close when appliances or other items need to be hidden.

This design can keep kitchen counters looking cleaner while still providing easy access to frequently used items.

3. Book Nooks

Small reading spaces are also gaining attention. Designers Alex Kinion and Jennifer Wilson say clients are increasingly interested in creating dedicated areas for reading.

A book nook does not require a large room. A stair landing, unused corner or small wall area can become a comfortable reading spot.

A simple bench, cushions and a few books can create a quiet space away from screens and daily distractions.

4. Roman Shades

Roman shades could become another key home decor trend in 2027. Designer Elaine Burns Thompson says homeowners are choosing them for their relaxed and lived-in appearance.

Roman shades can add warmth without making a room feel overly formal. They are also available in many fabrics, colours and patterns.

For a more layered look, Roman shades can be paired with bamboo blinds or other window treatments.

Looking Ahead to 2027

These four ideas are still emerging, but they reflect a wider shift in interior design. Homeowners are looking for decor that feels comfortable, useful and personal.

From multifunctional pillows to quiet reading corners, the focus is moving beyond short-lived trends. In 2027, practical details with a strong sense of personality could have a bigger role in home interiors.
