Jane Abernethy to Champion Regenerative Design in India

Humanscale Chief Sustainability Officer Jane Abernethy will visit India this September.

This is her first visit to the country. During her stay, she will meet leaders from the design, architecture and real estate sectors.

She will also meet corporate leaders in Bengaluru. The visit will focus on better and more sustainable workplaces.

Jane Abernethy to Speak in Bengaluru

Abernethy will speak at the RICS India CRE Conference on 23 September 2026.

The event will take place at JW Marriott Bengaluru. It will bring together leaders from the real estate and building sectors.

The theme of the conference is “Global Ambition, India Growth – Shaping the Future of Commercial Real Estate.”

Abernethy will lead a session titled “From Intention to Impact: Creating Workspaces that Care for People and the Planet.”

She will share ideas on how businesses can build better workplaces. She will also explain how design can help people and the planet.

Focus on Better Workplaces

Abernethy will talk about healthy materials and smart design.

She will also discuss circular design. This approach helps reduce waste and use resources more wisely.

Another key topic will be material transparency. It helps businesses understand what goes into the products they buy.

Abernethy will also discuss climate-positive products. She will show how better product choices can support a healthier workplace.

She will also join a panel discussion at the event.

The panel is titled “Designing for Impact: Workplaces for People, Performance and the Planet.”

Humanscale’s Green Approach

Abernethy has led much of Humanscale’s work on sustainability.

She has helped the company move towards net-positive manufacturing. This means going beyond simply reducing harm to the environment.

The goal is to create products and processes that have a positive impact.

Abernethy also led Humanscale’s work with the Living Product Challenge.

Humanscale became the first manufacturer to achieve full Living Product Challenge certification.

Her work also covers safer materials and better product information. She has helped drive action on chemicals of concern and supply chain practices.

Meetings With Indian Leaders

The Jane Abernethy India visit will include more events in Bengaluru.

She will take part in executive roundtables and group sessions. She will meet architects, designers, customers and business leaders.

The visit comes as Humanscale grows its business in India. The company is also working on local manufacturing and distribution.

Alastair Stubbs, Country Director – India, Humanscale, welcomed the visit.

He said Abernethy’s experience can help businesses look beyond basic sustainability targets. He also highlighted the effect of workplace choices on people and the planet.

Sathish Nandagopal, Founder and Director, S Cube Ergonomics Pvt Ltd., also welcomed the visit.

He said it will give Indian business and design leaders a chance to learn from a global expert.

A New Focus on Workplace Design

India’s real estate market is growing fast. At the same time, businesses are paying more attention to workplace health and sustainability.

Therefore, workplace design is becoming more important.
