Metal in Interiors: The Key Trend for Autumn 2026

Metal is set to become a defining detail in autumn 2026 interiors. Designers are moving beyond the traditional industrial look. Instead, chrome, stainless steel, brass and bronze are being used in softer and more sculptural ways.

As the season changes, interiors often become warmer and richer. Wood, wool, velvet and deep shades such as olive, brown and burgundy take centre stage. Metal adds a cool contrast to these materials. It also brings light and freshness into the room.

Metal Takes a Softer Direction

Metal was a strong presence at Salone del Mobile 2026. Designers used it across tables, lamps, chairs, vases and smaller furniture pieces. Rounded shapes and sculptural forms helped create a softer look.

This approach makes metal feel less industrial. It becomes part of the overall design rather than a simple decorative detail.

Interior designer Marta de la Rica also highlighted this shift. She described metal as a central material in furniture design. Its changing appearance over time can add character and a sense of permanence.

Mixing Metals Is Now Welcome

Another key trend is the use of different metals in the same space. Chrome, bronze, brass and stainless steel can work together without looking mismatched.

For example, cool chrome can be paired with warm bronze. Brass can also work well with stainless steel. Silver details can add contrast against dark wood.

Patina is another important element. As metal ages, its surface can develop unique character. This can make interiors feel more personal and timeless.

A Small Metal Detail Can Make a Difference

Metal does not need to dominate a room. A single piece can create a strong visual impact.

A chrome side table, brass lamp or stainless-steel accessory can instantly refresh a space. The key is to balance metal with softer materials such as wood, textiles and stone.

For autumn 2026, metal in interiors offers an easy way to add contrast, texture and a modern edge. It is a simple detail, but it can completely change the mood of a room.
