CREDAI Chennai hosted an interaction with representatives of Port City Colombo to provide its members with insights into the development and potential areas of engagement in Sri Lanka’s emerging real estate destination.

The interaction was relevant to Chennai’s real estate community due to the city’s proximity to Colombo and the longstanding commercial and cultural links between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Members had the opportunity to understand the regional market and explore areas such as real estate development, construction, design and allied services.

Members also interacted directly with the Port City Colombo team. The discussions allowed participants to seek relevant information and independently assess potential opportunities based on their business interests and priorities.

Key Industry Representatives Attend Programme

Mr. Thiru A.R. Rahul Nadh, IAS, Member Secretary, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), attended the programme as the distinguished guest and delivered a special address.

CREDAI Chennai office bearers, member developers, industry representatives and representatives of Port City Colombo also attended the programme.

Mr. Mehul H. Doshi, President, CREDAI Chennai, said the objective was to showcase Port City Colombo to members and government officials. He highlighted its master plan and noted that the development could provide a reference point as the Tamil Nadu government considers establishing an AI city.

He added that the interaction helped members obtain information directly and assess whether the opportunities matched their business interests.

Mr. Thulci Aluwihare, Deputy Managing Director, CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd., said Chennai was a natural starting point for the discussion because of its proximity to Colombo and strong real estate ecosystem.

He noted that India, particularly South India, remains an important market for Port City Colombo. The interaction provided an opportunity to introduce the development to the Indian real estate community and discuss potential areas of cross-border engagement.

The interaction also highlighted the scope for continued professional dialogue between Chennai and Colombo across real estate and related sectors.
