A Gordon Square townhouse in Cleveland, Ohio, has been transformed with midcentury modern furniture, vintage accessories and personal collectibles. The project combines contemporary interiors with eclectic décor to create a warm and coordinated living space.

Homeowner Adrienne Lee worked with Whitney Anderson Rooney, owner of WAR Art & Interiors, to complete the design. The couple wanted a cohesive look for their open-plan living and dining area while keeping their personal style.

A Mix of Modern Furniture and Vintage Décor

The redesign introduced custom floating shelves with brass details and charcoal lime-wash finishes in the dining area. Brass wall sconces added lighting and highlighted the dedicated bar space.

In the living room, a beige wool rug, textured cushions and a marble-topped cocktail table added layers of texture. A brass floor lamp and walnut-veneer media console completed the arrangement.

The designer also incorporated the couple’s travel souvenirs and decorative collectibles. These included a large marlin replica, aquatic-inspired accessories and artwork collected during their travels.

Personal Details Shape the Interior

Vintage books, colourful artwork and sculptural furniture added contrast to the neutral palette. Green and brown marble side tables introduced additional colour while serving practical purposes during gatherings.

The project demonstrates how midcentury modern design can work with contemporary architecture and personal collections. By combining different materials, vintage objects and carefully selected furnishings, the townhouse achieves a balanced look without relying on matching pieces throughout the space.
