Deep aubergine is emerging as a statement kitchen colour for 2027, bringing warmth, depth and sophistication to interior spaces. Interior designers are moving beyond traditional neutral palettes towards richer, nature-inspired shades.
The aubergine kitchen colour trend features muted reddish-purple tones with brown or burgundy undertones. These shades can create a dramatic look while maintaining a refined appearance. According to interior designer Swati Goorha, darker, earthy colours can feel sophisticated and almost neutral when paired with complementary surfaces.
Interior designer Sasha Bikoff also sees kitchen palettes moving towards romantic, organic and garden-inspired colours. For a brighter alternative, she recommends mulberry, a berry-inspired shade that adds depth and warmth to kitchen interiors.
Paint Colours to Consider for 2027
Several paint shades can help homeowners explore this trend. Options highlighted by Good Housekeeping include Farrow & Ball Brinjal, Benjamin Moore Black Raspberry, Behr Aubergine, Sherwin-Williams Carnelian, Benjamin Moore Caponata and Glidden Purple Basil.
These colours can work across different kitchen styles and layouts. Homeowners can introduce aubergine through a kitchen island or lower cabinets for a subtle statement. Alternatively, painting the walls and cabinetry in the same shade can create a more immersive look.
How to Style Aubergine Kitchen Interiors
Material selection plays an important role in balancing these rich colours. Warm woods such as walnut, marble, aged brass hardware and cream-coloured neutrals complement plum, aubergine and berry shades.
These combinations bring together traditional elegance and contemporary design. As kitchen interiors embrace more expressive colour choices, aubergine offers an alternative to conventional whites, creams and beiges.
The trend also allows flexibility, whether used as a small accent or across an entire kitchen. With its earthy undertones and rich appearance, aubergine is a colour option to watch in kitchen design for 2027.
