AEPC says government reforms, trade agreements and textile policies have strengthened India’s apparel export ecosystem and improved global competitiveness.

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has congratulated Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. The industry body said the milestone reflects his leadership and highlighted several government initiatives that have supported the growth of India’s textile and apparel sector.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, AEPC Chairman Dr A. Sakthivel acknowledged Shri Modi’s leadership and noted that economic reforms, infrastructure development, digital transformation and stronger global engagement have contributed to India’s economic progress and industrial development over the past decade.

Dr Sakthivel stated that these initiatives have improved India’s competitiveness while creating new opportunities for businesses, exporters and citizens across the country.

Referring to the textile and apparel sector, he said the industry has benefited from several policy measures introduced by the Government. These include the PM MITRA Mega Textile Parks programme, the Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) Scheme, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for textiles, the National Logistics Policy, and various ease of doing business reforms that have strengthened India’s manufacturing and export ecosystem.

“The apparel industry deeply appreciates the Government’s sustained support towards enhancing the competitiveness of India’s textile and apparel value chain. These initiatives have helped generate employment, strengthen MSMEs, attract investments and improve India’s position in the global sourcing landscape,” Dr Sakthivel said.

The AEPC Chairman also highlighted the Government’s efforts to expand India’s global trade presence through multiple Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements. He noted that India has secured preferential market access through recently signed trade agreements with 38 countries, creating additional opportunities for Indian apparel exporters in key international markets.

Dr Sakthivel further referred to the Prime Minister’s 5F framework“Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion and Fashion to Foreign” — stating that it has provided a roadmap for the integrated development of the textile and apparel value chain. He added that the emphasis on sustainability, innovation, skill development and investment promotion has supported the sector’s long-term growth.

Reaffirming the industry’s support for the national development agenda, Dr Sakthivel said the apparel export sector remains aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and will continue contributing to employment generation, export growth, investment promotion and strengthening India’s position in the global textile and apparel industry.

On behalf of the apparel export industry, AEPC conveyed its congratulations to the Prime Minister and wished him continued success in leading the country.
