A major step toward strengthening India’s apparel manufacturing ecosystem and empowering rural youth has been taken with the inauguration of the Chaudhary Ajit Singh Centre of Excellence (CoE) by Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Established by the Apparel, Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), the AI-enabled Centre is designed as a hub for skill development, innovation, and industry collaboration in apparel and fashion technology.
Advanced Training for Future-Ready Workforce
The Centre has introduced eight specialised courses, including:
- Sewing Machine Operator
- Self-Employed Tailor
- Fashion Designing and Technology
- AI-enabled apparel programmes
In addition, it offers training in AI-driven fashion design, 3D prototyping, CAD-CAM systems, smart cutting, supply chain management, embroidery, and pattern making, ensuring industry-aligned skill development.
Strategically located near Delhi, the facility aims to bridge regional skill gaps and create employment opportunities for youth across western Uttar Pradesh.
Modern Infrastructure and Smart Technology
Spread across 9,000 sq. ft. with an investment of approximately ₹5 crore, the Centre is equipped with:
- 43 advanced sewing machines, including 8 AI-enabled machines
- Smart classrooms and digital workstations
- Computerised embroidery units
- CAD-CAM-enabled cutting lab with CNC auto-cutting systems
- 3D design and simulation-based learning tools
A key highlight is the AI-enabled sewing technology, capable of detecting fabric types such as cotton, jersey, or twill and automatically adjusting stitching parameters—enhancing efficiency, reducing defects, and minimising material wastage.
Empowering Rural Youth and Women
The initiative places strong emphasis on women empowerment, providing access to advanced training in a safe and inclusive environment. It aims to enable women to become entrepreneurs, job creators, and contributors to the regional economy.
The apparel sector, which employs nearly 80 lakh people annually in India, offers significant potential for job creation, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh.
Driving Industry Growth and Innovation
The Centre is expected to benefit thousands of youth by equipping them with industry-ready skills and supporting MSMEs in adopting smart manufacturing technologies. It will also promote sustainable practices and innovation within the textile and apparel ecosystem.
With strong support from government and industry stakeholders, the Baghpat CoE is poised to become a model for next-generation skill development in India, aligning traditional craftsmanship with advanced technologies like AI.
