ALLIED Feather + Down has expanded its TrackMyDown platform. The platform now includes validated carbon footprint data. The data links to individual down lots. Brands and consumers can view carbon data for each lot. TrackMyDown also shows the origin and processing history of down used in products.
Carbon Footprint Audit
ALLIED completed a carbon footprint audit with Green Threads DPP. The audit used data from ALLIED’s processing center in Hangzhou, China. It covered energy, water, wastewater, and detergent use. The audit measured carbon emissions per kilogram of processed down. The result was 0.48 kg CO₂e per kilogram processed. ALLIED compared this figure with polyester-based synthetic insulation.
The polyester figure was 8.48 kg CO₂e per kilogram processed.
ALLIED said the difference is about 95%.
The company also compared its result with other industry figures.
The result was about 85% lower than the estimated average of 3.2 kg CO₂e per kilogram for conventional down.
It was also 57.9% lower than the published figure of 1.14 kg CO₂e per kilogram for recycled down.
Lot-Level Carbon Data
The validated carbon data comes from facility-level consumption records.
ALLIED allocates the data per kilogram.
It then links the data to individual down lots.
Users can follow lot number 0000L25FN2266 on TrackMyDown.com.
They can then select “ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT” to view the data.
Carbon Calculation Standards
ALLIED follows three standards for its carbon calculations:
- ISO 14067:2018 – Carbon Footprint of Products
- PAS 2050:2011 – Assessment of life cycle greenhouse gas emissions
- PCR 2024:03 – Apparel, Except Fur and Leather Apparel
The polyester comparison uses ALLIED’s cradle-to-gate carbon data for down processing.
It also uses estimated carbon data for polyester fiber production from Ecoinvent version 3.12.
The comparison uses the IPCC 2021 100-year global warming potential.
The analysis does not include petroleum extraction and refining.
It also excludes transport, downstream manufacturing, and end-of-life impacts for polyester.
The recycled down figures have some exclusions.
They do not include impacts linked to collecting post-consumer goods.
They also exclude industrial delivery and recycling centers.
The recycled down figures come from the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) database.
Supply Chain Transparency
Daniel Uretsky is the CEO of ALLIED Feather + Down. Uretsky said transparency needs credible and useful information. The company aims to help brands support sustainability claims with data. It also wants to give consumers clearer information about materials used in products. The new carbon data adds environmental information to TrackMyDown.
Digital Product Passport Data
ALLIED also highlighted the role of material-level carbon data. Digital Product Passport requirements are developing across markets. Verified environmental data can help brands create detailed product records.
The new TrackMyDown data adds this information to the existing platform.
TrackMyDown Expansion
ALLIED has worked on supply chain transparency and traceability for more than a decade. The company is a co-creator of the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). It also developed the TrackMyDown platform. The latest update adds carbon data to the platform.
TrackMyDown now combines down traceability with environmental impact data.
