AMANN Group is strengthening its presence in India with its fully operational manufacturing facility in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu. The German sewing thread manufacturer is focusing on local production, faster deliveries and sustainable thread technologies to serve India’s growing textile and footwear industries.
Commercial production at the Ranipet facility began towards the end of 2024. The plant was developed to support the domestic market and supply customers in Sri Lanka and the Middle East. AMANN began its Indian operations with a trading business in Chennai in 2007.
Local Manufacturing Supports Market Growth
The Ranipet facility produces threads for fashion, accessories, leather and footwear applications. Local manufacturing enables AMANN to improve product availability, delivery times and customer support while maintaining its international quality standards.
The company also sees opportunities in home textiles, technical textiles and industrial applications. India’s growing domestic consumption and expanding manufacturing sector are supporting demand for specialised sewing thread solutions.
Sustainable Thread Innovations
AMANN is expanding its portfolio with products designed to improve textile performance and support circular production. Its innovations include AeoniQ-Fil, a biodegradable sewing thread made from renewable cellulosic fibres, and Smart Stitch, a heat-dissolvable thread that helps separate garment components for reuse or recycling.
The company is also developing Waterfil, a water-soluble thread for temporary seams. Other products include Saba Evo for premium garments and Isacord UV for embroidery applications requiring improved colour performance under sunlight.
Automation and Environmental Initiatives
The Ranipet plant uses automated production systems, including robotic technologies and automated dyeing operations. These systems support consistent quality and reliable thread performance.
According to Sanjeev Grewal, Regional Business Director – Asia, Middle East & Pacific, the facility recycles approximately 91% of its water. The plant also sources its electricity entirely from renewable energy sources, including solar and wind.
AMANN’s India strategy combines local manufacturing, technical support and sustainable product development. With the Ranipet facility fully operational, the company aims to strengthen customer relationships and expand its presence across apparel, home textiles, footwear and other industrial segments.
