Asia Pacific Rayon and TOTON Unveil 2027: KALA Collection Featuring Viscose and Lyocell Fibres

Collaboration highlights the creative versatility of cellulose fibres in contemporary fashion inspired by Javanese and Balinese mythology.

Asia Pacific Rayon (APR), a leading producer of viscose-rayon fibre, has partnered with renowned Indonesian fashion designer Toton Januar to launch TOTON 2027: KALA, a contemporary fashion collection that showcases the creative potential of viscose- and lyocell-based fabrics.

Inspired by Javanese and Balinese mythology, the collection demonstrates how cellulose fibres can be used to create premium fashion that combines artistic expression, comfort and functional performance.

A Collection Inspired by Culture and Material Innovation

The TOTON 2027: KALA collection features 10 curated looks crafted from viscose- and lyocell-based fabrics. Each design explores the relationship between material characteristics and garment construction, highlighting how fibre selection influences silhouette, movement, texture and structure.

By incorporating nature-based cellulose fibres into contemporary designs, the collection illustrates how innovative materials can support refined aesthetics while maintaining versatility and comfort.

Exploring the Potential of Cellulose Fibres

The collaboration reflects the growing importance of cellulose fibres within premium fashion as designers increasingly seek materials that balance creativity with performance.

Commenting on the partnership, Toton Januar, Co-Founder and Designer of TOTON, said working with viscose- and lyocell-based fabrics offered new creative possibilities and greater flexibility in developing different silhouettes and design concepts.

He noted that the collection aims to demonstrate how functional and comfortable materials can also become powerful forms of artistic expression while supporting the continued evolution of Indonesia’s fashion industry.

Strengthening Indonesia’s Fashion Ecosystem

The collaboration aligns with Asia Pacific Rayon’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s downstream textile and fashion sector by expanding the use of nature-based cellulose fibres across contemporary and premium fashion applications.

According to Sachin Malik, Business Head of Asia Pacific Rayon, the partnership demonstrates how viscose and lyocell fibres can enable designers to achieve creative freedom while meeting the performance and sustainability expectations of today’s fashion market.

He added that collaborations with designers such as Toton help broaden the application of cellulose fibres and introduce them into new premium fashion segments.

Material Choices Shape Future Fashion

As sustainability and material innovation continue to influence apparel development, the partnership highlights the growing relationship between fibre technology and design.

Through TOTON 2027: KALA, APR—part of the RGE group founded by Sukanto Tanoto—and TOTON showcase how thoughtful material selection can shape every stage of the creative process, from garment structure and movement to texture and overall aesthetic appeal.

The collaboration demonstrates the role of cellulose fibres as a platform for innovation, enabling designers to create collections that combine creativity, functionality and material excellence while responding to evolving expectations in contemporary fashion.
