The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen education, sustainability and innovation across Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry.
Signed in Dhaka on July 1, 2026, the three-year agreement establishes a collaborative framework to enhance technical capabilities, promote sustainable manufacturing practices and equip textile professionals with advanced knowledge in colour science, artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
The partnership aims to educate textile and garment professionals in Bangladesh through specialized training in colour science, AI and next-generation textile technologies while encouraging environmentally responsible manufacturing using natural fibres, plant-based dyes and bio-based materials.
A key objective of the collaboration is to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application by connecting Bangladeshi universities and research institutions with SDC’s global knowledge network. The initiative will also encourage pilot projects focused on bio-based materials and applied research through BGMEA’s Innovation Center.
Additionally, the partnership will create opportunities for international knowledge exchange and increase global visibility for Bangladesh’s textile innovations through leading scientific publications, including Coloration Technology.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Graham Clayton, CEO of SDC, said:

The Memorandum of Understanding will remain effective for three years, with both organizations conducting joint annual reviews to monitor progress and strengthen future collaboration.
