St. Gallen, Switzerland – July 2025

In 2024, bluesign® and its System Partner companies continued their transformative journey toward a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable textile industry. The year was marked by measurable reductions in environmental impact, a growing global network of partners, and internal strategic shifts designed to amplify long-term sustainability goals.

2024 marked another successful year for bluesign System Partner companies and bluesign overall,” said Daniel Rüfenacht, CEO of bluesign. “Adverse impacts were reduced across our manufacturing partners for another consecutive year, and the number of approved bluesign articles and products also increased.

These accomplishments underscore the strength of bluesign’s Total Sustainability Solution — a holistic approach that collaborates with over 900 global partners, from chemical suppliers to fashion brands and retailers, to advance sustainability throughout the textile production value chain.

Environmental Impact Reduced in 2024

According to the 2024 bluesign System Impact Report, the global partner network has achieved significant year-on-year reductions in environmental intensity:

  • CO₂ Emissions: ↓ 17%

  • Energy Consumption: ↓ 14%

  • Freshwater Usage: ↓ 8%

  • Chemical Supplier Assessments: 140+ completed

  • Manufacturer Assessments: 300+ factory audits conducted

These results highlight how collaborative impact and continuous improvement can create scalable change across the industry.

Strategic Alignment with SGS Enhances Global Reach

In 2024, bluesign also strengthened its collaboration with parent company SGS, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification. This alignment enhances bluesign’s outreach and positions the company to better meet growing customer needs amid rising global sustainability demands.

Together with SGS, we’ve engaged with over a thousand brands, helping to define the future of textile production and create lasting value for people and the planet,” added Rüfenacht.

Data-Driven Tools for a Changing Regulatory Landscape

With increased regulatory pressure across the European Union and rising consumer demand for sustainable textiles, the ability to track, assess, and improve sustainability performance is more vital than ever.

Bluesign is widely recognized as a market gold standard in providing primary data, transparency, and measurable improvement roadmaps to its network. These tools empower partners to maintain safety, reduce chemical risks, and stay compliant in an evolving legal and consumer landscape.

Looking Ahead: 25 Years of Bluesign’s Legacy

As bluesign approaches its 25th anniversary, the company is reflecting on its legacy while continuing to welcome new partners aligned with its mission: enabling textiles that enrich lives without harming health or the environment.

“I would like to thank bluesign employees and our System Partner companies for making our vision of a better planet a reality every day,” Rüfenacht concluded. “We look forward to welcoming new partners who share our commitment to responsible innovation.
