Circ has announced a long-term partnership with international fashion retailer Primark to increase the use of textile-to-textile recycled fibres in clothing.

Under the agreement, Primark will introduce recycled polyester made from textile waste into its clothing range from 2029. The partnership will help Primark expand the use of circular materials and reduce its reliance on virgin polyester.

The agreement marks Primark’s first multi-year purchase commitment with a textile-to-textile recycler. It also supports Circ’s plans to scale production at its first commercial textile-to-textile recycling facility.

Recycled Polyester from Textile Waste

Circ will produce the recycled polyester at its commercial facility. The facility will source textile waste from global markets. This will include both post-consumer and post-industrial textile waste.

The company also plans to source textile waste from Europe. This approach will support the recovery and reuse of textile materials that might otherwise enter waste streams.

Focus on Circular Fashion

Primark’s Primark Cares strategy focuses on extending the life of clothing and reducing waste. The retailer also uses circular design principles in product development through its Circular Product Standard.

The company has also introduced reuse and repair initiatives to help customers keep clothes in use for longer.

Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ, said the partnership provides a long-term commercial commitment for textile-to-textile recycling. He added that retailer demand can help expand circular material supply chains.

Lynne Walker, Director of Primark Cares, said the partnership will support Primark’s efforts to increase circularity. She also highlighted the potential of textile-to-textile recycling to support the future of fashion.

Circ Technology for Blended Textiles

Circ has developed patented technology to recycle polycotton blended textiles. These blends are widely used in fashion but remain difficult to recycle.

The technology separates polyester and cellulose from blended textile waste. Circ then recovers both materials for reuse in new fashion products.

The partnership with Primark adds a long-term purchase commitment to Circ’s commercial plans. It also sets a 2029 target for the introduction of recycled polyester into Primark clothing.
