Expands 85-Year Legacy into India’s Fast-Growing Residential Wiring Segment

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. has announced its entry into the residential house wires segment with the launch of Crompton Armor Wires, expanding its portfolio beyond fans, pumps, lighting, and appliances.

The launch was unveiled through events held across Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka, marking the beginning of the company’s South India-focused expansion strategy. The move positions Crompton to tap into India’s growing wires and cables industry, estimated at nearly ₹1.25 lakh crore.

The new Crompton Armor House Wires range has been developed to serve as a critical electrical infrastructure component for homes, offering enhanced safety, durability, and performance. The company aims to leverage its established distribution network and brand trust built over 85 years to strengthen its presence in this category.

Product Range Focuses on Safety and Performance

The Armor range includes multiple variants designed to cater to varying residential electrical requirements. At the premium end, Crompton Armor Ultra features 10% more copper and can operate at temperatures up to 90°C, supporting higher electrical loads and improved performance.

Key features of the range include:

  • 99.9%+ pure copper for efficient conductivity
  • Low-smoke and low-toxic-gas properties
  • Flame-retardant construction
  • Anti-termite and anti-rodent protection
  • Enhanced insulation and durability
  • Compliance with RoHS standards and national safety regulations

The products are designed to address increasing power consumption in modern homes as appliance usage continues to rise.

South India Chosen as Initial Growth Market

Crompton has adopted a South-first market strategy, beginning with Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka. The company plans to engage not only retailers but also electricians, contractors, architects, and builders to build awareness and adoption.

As part of this effort, Crompton has also introduced the Crompton Saathi App, a platform designed specifically for electricians to provide product information, updates, and incentive-related details.

Industry Opportunity

According to a 2024 research report by Motilal Oswal, the residential house wires segment alone is valued at approximately ₹30,000–35,000 crore and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 12–14% between 2024 and 2029.

Crompton believes its strong brand recognition, extensive distribution network, and focus on product quality will help it establish a significant presence in the category.

Commenting on the launch, Promeet Ghosh, MD & CEO of Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd., said the company sees residential wires as a strategic growth opportunity and intends to build a scalable business through product innovation, channel partnerships, and consumer awareness.

Shaleen Nayak, Business Unit Head – Lighting, Solar, Wires & Cables, added that the Armor range has been developed to meet the safety, durability, and performance expectations of modern households while supporting the evolving power needs of consumers.

With over 500 million homes already connected to the Crompton brand through its existing product portfolio, the company aims to strengthen its position within India’s residential electrical ecosystem through its latest expansion into house wires.
