Dark Kitchen Colors Lead New Design Trend

Dark colors are gaining ground in American kitchen design. Black kitchens, in particular, are now drawing more online searches than white kitchens, according to a new analysis by CopperSmith.

For years, white kitchens were a top choice for homeowners. They offered a bright and clean look. They were also seen as a safe option for resale.

That trend is now changing. Homeowners are showing more interest in dark kitchen colors, rich materials and personal design choices.

Black Kitchens Lead Color Searches

CopperSmith found that black is now the most searched kitchen color in the US. The shift points to growing demand for kitchens with more character.

CopperSmith CEO Ryan Grambart said homeowners still care about long-term value. However, they also want spaces that feel personal and less generic.

Dark cabinetry can also work well with natural materials. Black pairs with copper, brass, timber and stone. These materials add warmth, texture and contrast to the space.

Bold Kitchen Colors Gain Interest

The shift is not limited to black. CopperSmith also reported stronger interest in avocado-green kitchens. Two-tone kitchens are also gaining attention.

These trends show that homeowners are becoming more open to bold color combinations. They are moving beyond the traditional all-white kitchen.

At the same time, classic kitchen styles remain popular. Country kitchens lead overall style searches in the US. Farmhouse and French Country designs follow.

Traditional Design Meets Modern Style

Homeowners are also mixing traditional details with modern elements. They want kitchens that look attractive but also work well for everyday life.

Mid-century modern is currently the fastest-growing kitchen style in search interest, according to CopperSmith.

The findings suggest a wider shift in kitchen design. Homeowners are choosing spaces based on mood, comfort and lifestyle rather than a single design label.

Natural materials and handcrafted details are also becoming important. CopperSmith said features such as copper range hoods, brass sinks and natural surfaces can give kitchens a unique look.

The result is a move toward warmer, richer and more individual kitchen interiors. For homeowners, the kitchen is becoming more than a resale investment. It is also a space that reflects personal taste.
