Dubai has offered Surat textile businesses a new way to reach global markets. A Dubai government delegation recently met more than 450 textile mill owners in Surat.
The meeting focused on business opportunities in Dubai. It also covered exports, offices, trading units and business facilities.
The proposal could help Surat textile companies expand their international business.
Dubai offers business space to Surat firms
The Dubai delegation invited Surat businesses to set up offices and trading units in the emirate.
The proposed facilities include land at competitive rates. Businesses can also get ready-to-use office spaces.
The plan includes a single-window system for approvals. This could make it easier for companies to start operations.
Dubai also said it may offer special rate benefits after discussions with the Surat textile association.
Zero-duty access is a key benefit
The biggest attraction is Dubai’s access to global markets.
According to the proposal, goods exported from Dubai may get zero-duty access in some markets. This would depend on the trade agreements that apply to each market.
For Surat textile businesses, this could lower export costs. It could also help them compete in international markets.
The opportunity may be useful for textile manufacturers, exporters and traders.
Surat mills are unlikely to move
The proposal does not mean that Surat’s textile mills will move to Dubai.
Jitu Vakharia, president of the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association, said textile processing units are unlikely to shift.
Processing mills must follow water and air pollution rules. This makes large-scale relocation difficult.
Instead, Surat companies could open offices in Dubai. They could use these offices to manage exports and connect with overseas buyers.
Dubai could help reduce surplus stock
Surat’s textile industry is also facing a production surplus.
The industry produces around 15% to 20% more than the local market can absorb, according to Vakharia.
This creates excess stock for textile businesses.
New export markets could help solve this problem. Companies could send more products to overseas markets through their Dubai operations.
This could help Surat businesses increase sales and reduce unsold stock.
Tax structure also attracts businesses
Dubai’s tax system was another point discussed during the meeting.
Vakharia said the information shared with the association mentions a fixed 5% tax under the proposal being discussed. He also said there would be no additional income tax under the arrangement.
The South Gujarat Textile Processors Association is now studying the proposal.
The association will decide its next steps after reviewing the details.
For Surat’s textile industry, the Dubai offer could create a new route for exports, global trade and international business growth.
