Home design is moving toward warmer, more personal spaces this fall. Houzz has released its 2026 U.S. Fall Design Trends Report, highlighting the ideas shaping homes for the new season.

The report is based on insights from nearly 50 home design professionals. It shows a clear shift away from cold, minimal interiors. Instead, homeowners are choosing warmth, character and comfort.

Warm interiors take the lead

Warm colors are now becoming a standard choice for home interiors. Designers are combining earthy shades with warm wood, natural materials and layered textures.

This approach adds depth to a room. It also creates a more welcoming atmosphere than the stark white and gray interiors that were popular in recent years.

Personal style is back

Personalization is another major trend for fall 2026. Homeowners want spaces that reflect their lives, tastes and memories.

Designers are mixing vintage furniture with modern pieces. They are also using bold patterns, expressive wallpapers, unusual tiles and distinctive colors.

Handmade tiles, natural stone, aged metals and original architectural details can add more character. These elements help create homes that feel collected rather than perfectly matched.

Natural materials add texture

Natural materials are also gaining attention. Stone furniture, travertine tables, river stone sinks and wood lighting are becoming popular choices.

Designers are embracing the natural variation found in wood, stone and handmade surfaces. Plaster, honed stone and high-variation tiles can also bring a tactile feel to interiors.

Homes are designed for the future

Long-term comfort is another important focus. Many homeowners plan to stay in their homes for more than a decade. As a result, designers are creating spaces that can adapt to changing needs.

ADUs and secondary suites can support multigenerational living, guests and future family needs. Wellness spaces are also growing in popularity, including saunas, cold plunges and meditation areas.

A more personal design direction

The fall 2026 home design trends point to one clear idea: personality matters more than perfection.

Warm colors, natural materials and meaningful objects are helping homeowners create spaces that feel comfortable and authentic. The result is a more lived-in approach to interior design.
