₹13.65 crore government funding to accelerate innovation under the National Technical Textiles Mission
The Ministry of Textiles has approved 31 start-up projects under the Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT) scheme, reinforcing the government’s efforts to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in India’s technical textiles sector.
According to Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita, the approved projects are collectively valued at ₹15.40 crore, with the Government of India providing financial assistance of ₹13.65 crore.
The selected start-ups are located across Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, reflecting broad regional participation in the country’s growing technical textile ecosystem.
Maharashtra Leads in Approved Projects
Among the participating states, Maharashtra secured the highest number of approved projects with seven, followed by:
- Tamil Nadu – 6 projects
- Delhi – 5 projects
- Gujarat – 4 projects
- Uttar Pradesh – 3 projects
- Karnataka – 2 projects
- Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand – 1 project each
Supporting Innovation Through the GREAT Scheme
The GREAT scheme, implemented under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), provides financial assistance of up to ₹50 lakh per eligible start-up. The initiative is designed to support the research, development and commercialization of innovative technical textile products and technologies while encouraging entrepreneurship within the sector.

The newly approved projects cover diverse high-value applications, including:
- Smart textiles
- Functional and performance fabrics
- Energy-harvesting textiles
- Wearable healthcare technologies
- High-performance composite materials
- Eco-friendly and biodegradable textile solutions
- Medical textile innovations
The approvals are expected to strengthen India’s technical textile innovation ecosystem by supporting start-ups developing advanced products with applications across healthcare, industrial, infrastructure, defence, sustainability and wearable technology sectors.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader objective of enhancing India’s capabilities in technical textiles while promoting indigenous innovation and accelerating the commercialization of next-generation textile technologies.
