Surat-based jewellery manufacturer patents a new technique combining two baguette diamonds in a mirror-image configuration to enhance visual performance and brilliance.
The Prismix Cut Technique uses 38 facets across a unified form, opening new design possibilities for contemporary jewellery applications.
Surat-based Hastmilap Pvt. Ltd. has been granted a patent for its proprietary Prismix Cut Technique, an original diamond-cutting innovation developed to redefine the visual performance of structured diamonds.
The patented technique is based on the precise positioning of two baguette diamonds in mirror-image opposition, facing each other across a central axis to create a unified form. While retaining the clean geometry and structured elegance associated with the classic step cut, the configuration is designed to deliver enhanced visual presence.
The technique treats both diamonds as active table-facing surfaces. Light entering the cut is received, refracted and reflected from two directions simultaneously. Its 38 facets work in coordination, transferring light across the mirror axis and enhancing brilliance across the combined form.
According to Hastmilap, the result is a continuous bilateral glow that captures light from multiple angles and returns it with clarity, depth and brilliance. The technique demonstrates how precision engineering and design-led innovation can influence diamond performance.
The Prismix Cut Technique has applications across fine jewellery and is particularly suited to necklaces, bracelets, bangles, rings, earrings and other contemporary designs that feature linear and geometric forms. The innovation is intended to provide jewellery designers with additional creative possibilities while offering consumers a distinctive diamond experience.
The concept originated from a bespoke client requirement in which conventional baguette diamonds did not deliver the desired visual impact in a structured jewellery design. Instead of altering the jewellery around the limitation, Vishal Dholiya explored whether the diamond itself could be reimagined. Continuous research, trials and observation eventually led to the development of the Prismix Cut.
Commenting on the patent achievement, Vishal Dholiya, Founder & Managing Director, Hastmilap Pvt. Ltd., said, “The Prismix Cut began with a simple question, could we rethink the diamond instead of compromising on the design? That curiosity led us on a journey of exploration, and today, receiving a patent for the Prismix Cut Technique is a proud milestone for our entire team. This innovation represents our belief that craftsmanship should never stop evolving. I dedicate this achievement to the artisans of Surat, whose skill and dedication have shaped the global diamond industry for generations. It is my hope that the Prismix Cut will stand as a symbol of Indian innovation and inspire the industry to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible.”
Surat has long been recognised for its role in cutting and polishing the majority of the world’s diamonds. With the Prismix Cut Technique, Hastmilap aims to further contribute to the city’s diamond legacy through original intellectual property and product innovation.
The patent marks a milestone for Hastmilap and highlights Surat’s continuing role in the global diamond and jewellery industry, combining manufacturing expertise with innovation in diamond design and cutting.
