LEIDEN, The Netherlands — This year, Ikea customers’ top internet searches were for storage solutions, suggesting a growing need for home organizing.

Ikea Retail reports that its Pax closet system, Billy bookshelf, and Kallax storage unit were the top three online searches within its Ingka Group. About 90% of Ikea’s retail operations are spread across 400 locations throughout 31 countries under the Ingka Group.

The number of visitors to Ikea.com increased by 28% to 4.1 billion in fiscal 2024 from 3.2 billion in the previous fiscal year. A quarter of all sales were made online.

“We can anticipate these trends to grow further as digital ecosystems continue to evolve, particularly in storage and organization solutions, driven by the popularity of social media hacks and innovative ideas for optimizing living spaces,” stated Parag Parekh, Ikea Retail’s chief digital officer.

Additionally, according to Ikea’s 2023 Life at Home Report, 40% of people are happiest in neat, orderly houses.

With personalized inserts and boxes, the Kallax series, which was first released in 2014, can be used as a wall-mounted or floor-mounted room divider for a variety of purposes. One of Ikea’s most recognizable items, the Billy bookshelf was created in 1979 and has sold 140 million units globally. Pax, a modular closet system from the 1970s, has mix-and-match parts such doors that can be customized, pull-out trays, shelves that can be adjusted, and solid or mirrored finishes.
