India’s all-commodity Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation rose to 9.92% in August 2026. It stood at 9.78% in July, according to provisional government data.
The all-commodities WPI index increased to 110.8 in August from 110.0 in July.
Textile and Apparel Inflation
The manufacture of textiles index rose to 104.3 in August from 104.0 in July. Its year-on-year (YoY) inflation stood at 12.63%, compared with 12.80% in July.
The manufacture of wearing apparel index increased to 112.4 from 111.6. Apparel inflation eased to 3.12% from 3.33% in July.
The data was released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
WPI Inflation Across Major Groups
Inflation in Primary Articles stood at 7.76% in August. It was 8.52% in July.
Inflation in Fuel and Power rose to 22.93% from 20.05%. Manufactured Products inflation increased slightly to 8.37% from 8.29%.
The August indices for these groups were 118.1, 108.3 and 108.8, respectively.
The government identified several major drivers of WPI inflation. These included mineral oils, food articles, basic metals, non-food articles, chemicals and food products.
Key Textile Manufacturing Cost Indicators
The index for non-food articles rose to 113.3 in August from 112.6 in July. However, its YoY inflation eased to 14.79% from 17.66%.
The index for leather and related products increased to 109.7 from 109.4. Inflation eased slightly to 4.48%.
The chemicals and chemical products index rose to 103.9 from 102.6. The rubber and plastic products index also increased to 107.4 from 106.3.
Fuel and Food Prices
Mineral oils were a major driver of the Fuel and Power increase. Their index rose to 118.4 from 113.2.
Mineral oil inflation increased to 38.48% from 32.40% in July. Crude petroleum and natural gas inflation also rose to 34.41%.
The WPI Food Index recorded inflation of 7.05% in August. It was 6.65% in July.
Food articles inflation increased to 5.67%. Inflation in manufactured food products rose to 9.65%.
The final WPI index for June 2026 was revised to 110.3 from the provisional 110.2. June WPI inflation was also revised to 9.97% from 9.87%.
