The Italian textile machinery industry faced a difficult year in 2025.
Global uncertainty affected the sector. Geopolitical tensions also created new challenges. At the same time, industrial investment slowed in many markets.
ACIMIT shared the latest figures during its General Assembly in Milan.
Italian Production Declines
Italian textile machinery production reached about €1.94 billion in 2025.
This was a 9% decline from 2024.
Exports also decreased during the year. They fell by 8% to €1.675 billion.
Domestic sales reached €266 million. This was a 14% decline from the previous year.
Imports into Italy increased by 14%. However, domestic demand remained weak.
As a result, the rise in imports did not lead to stronger local investment.
India Records Strong Growth
India was the leading market for Italian textile machinery in 2025.
Sales to India reached €176 million. This was a 28% increase from 2024.
The growth highlights the importance of the Indian textile industry for Italian machinery manufacturers.
Asia remained the largest export region for Italy.
The region accounted for 40% of total exports. The value reached €667 million.
The European Union followed with a 24% share. Non-EU European markets accounted for 11%.
Finishing Machinery Leads Exports
Finishing and dyeing machinery had the largest share of exports.
The category accounted for 33% of total overseas sales.
Accessories followed with a 20% share. Spinning machinery accounted for 15%.
Several traditional markets recorded weaker demand in 2025.
North America and Turkey were among the affected markets. Turkey, in particular, saw a difficult market trend.
Focus on Innovation and Sustainability
ACIMIT said innovation remains important for the sector.
Italian manufacturers continue to invest in research and development.
Their work includes energy-efficient machinery. It also includes advanced automation solutions.
These technologies can help textile companies reduce energy use. They can also lower resource consumption and production costs.
Sustainability is therefore becoming a key part of textile machinery development.
ACIMIT also highlighted the need for skilled workers.
The association called for stronger links between companies, schools, and research institutions.
ITMA 2027 Becomes a Major Focus
The Italian textile machinery industry is now preparing for ITMA 2027.
The event will take place from September 16 to 22, 2027, in Hanover, Germany.
ACIMIT has already started international promotion activities. The programs are being carried out with the Italian Trade Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The association also discussed the industry’s future during its public assembly.
The session was titled “Competing in a Changing World.”
Speakers discussed economic, geopolitical, supply chain, and European market issues.
ACIMIT said Italian manufacturers will continue to focus on flexibility, innovation, quality, and sustainability as they compete in global markets.
