JCPenney takes action to strengthen its in-house brands

Texas’s Plano Two new executives have joined JCPenney; one is an expert in branding, and the other is in marketing.

As senior vice president for trend, brand, and design, Khristene Son recently joined the organization. She is in charge of design across all JCPenney private brand companies, including home. Michelle Wlazlo, the chief merchandising officer, is her supervisor.

Son previously held the positions of SVP of content and narrative at Charlotte Russe, VP of design for Justice, SVP of design for Old Navy, and VP of design, apparel, and accessories at UGG.

When JCPenney announced her hiring, they highlighted her innovative approach, business savvy, and proficiency in all areas of creative content creation, including macro trend prediction, seasonal fashion, and color trend detection.

Marisa Thalberg joined the store on October 1st as its new consulting chief marketing officer.

In addition to her experience in “complex retail environments,” Thalberg has over thirty years of experience spearheading marketing strategies to propel brand and business growth in important categories such as beauty, home, and leisure.

“As we continue to strategically reinvest in our growth, including progressing core strategies like the launch of JCPenney Beauty, extended merchandise and product collaborations, completed store refreshes and improved digital shopping,” the company stated that the appointment of the full-time consultant comes at a critical juncture.
