A love for ceramic mugs has grown into a new home décor collection.

Wendy Lau, founder of Kwendy Home, has launched a seasonal ceramic line at HomeGoods. The collection brings together her passion for ceramics and her evolving approach to home styling.

Lau has built a strong online community around home décor. Her journey began with a simple purchase at HomeGoods more than a decade ago.

It Started With Two Ceramic Mugs

About 10 years ago, Lau visited HomeGoods around Thanksgiving.

At the time, she had a limited budget for home décor. She found two chunky ceramic mugs with simple hand-lettered designs.

The mugs featured words such as “thankful” and “grateful.” Lau liked their shape, feel and simple design.

“I had $50 a month at my disposal to spend,” Lau said. “I chose to spend it on home décor.”

The mugs soon introduced her to the Rae Dunn design style. The collection was produced by tabletop company Magenta Inc. during the peak of the farmhouse décor trend.

“I decided Rae Dunn mugs would be my go-to mugs,” Lau said. “I love the aesthetic. It was so affordable, so accessible.”

From Collector to Home Décor Creator

Lau soon began collecting more Rae Dunn ceramics.

She searched for pieces through Facebook Marketplace and connected with other collectors online. Her community helped her find products that were harder to access in Canada.

Lau also used social media to exchange information with fellow Rae Dunn fans. She asked followers about cookie jars, canisters, platters and other ceramic pieces.

For Lau, collecting became more than a shopping habit.

“Facebook Marketplace has a trading, bargaining side to it,” she said. “It’s a way to make friends and create community, because we share the same likes.”

Her early home style was strongly influenced by farmhouse décor. Over time, however, her content began to cover much more than ceramic collecting.
