Lenzing Group has presented its latest fiber innovation, TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100, to the China market during Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition 2026. The new fiber was showcased at the exhibition held from March 11–13, 2026, marking an important step in expanding advanced fiber solutions for denim and woven apparel applications.

Initially developed for denim constructions and first introduced at Kingpins Amsterdam in September 2025, the fiber is now moving beyond denim into additional woven apparel categories. The innovation forms part of Lenzing’s broader strategy to provide premium fiber solutions that respond to growing global demand for more responsible and high-performance textile materials.

According to the company, partnerships with textile mills have played a key role in the initial adoption of TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100. While the fiber first gained traction in denim fabrics, development is now extending into bottom-weight fabrics such as chinos and shirting. Several Chinese mill partners are actively contributing to these next-phase applications.

“China is one of the world’s leading markets for innovation and we are committed to strengthening our partnerships with brands, retailers and fabric mills across the country,” said Yann Lepage. He noted that the new fiber reflects Lenzing’s collaborative approach to innovation, combining client insights with research and development expertise to deliver differentiated solutions to the textile market.

Strong consumer recognition for TENCEL™

The momentum behind the launch is also supported by strong consumer recognition of the TENCEL™ brand. According to research by NielsenIQ, TENCEL™ has been the most recognized fiber brand among Chinese consumers for five consecutive years.

The study found that 92% of consumers in China who are familiar with the brand express purchase intent for apparel made with TENCEL™ fibers. Globally, 85% of consumers aware of the brand indicate purchase intent, while 88% report satisfaction with garments containing TENCEL™ fibers.

Engineered texture and broader applications

TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 has been engineered to produce fabrics with a more natural appearance while retaining the softness and environmental profile associated with the TENCEL™ fiber portfolio.

Using Variocut technology, Lenzing introduces controlled variation in staple fiber lengths, creating subtle surface irregularities and a matte finish. This allows fabrics to achieve a less uniform appearance, similar to natural fibers.

“TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 is a unique offering for the apparel market,” said Julia Ulrich. She explained that while standard TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are known for smooth and uniform fabrics, the HV100 variant enables a more natural, textured aesthetic that opens new possibilities for apparel segments where a matte or irregular surface is preferred.

Role of Chinese mills in innovation

Chinese textile manufacturers are playing an important role in scaling the new fiber concept. These mills not only supply domestic demand but also collaborate with international and local brands to bring innovative textile solutions to global markets.

According to Vincent Hu, the fiber introduces new opportunities for denim development by combining a rugged matte texture with comfort and responsible production practices.

Industry partners are already testing the material across spinning and weaving processes. Early feedback suggests the fiber performs predictably on standard manufacturing equipment, while its texture can be adjusted through different blending compositions.

Advance Denim has been among the mills collaborating with Lenzing on the project. Managing Director Wang Zongwen noted that the partnership has helped create fabrics combining the drape and strength of TENCEL™ Lyocell with a cotton-like natural appearance.

Additional trials have also been conducted by Texhong International Group, where Marketing Director for Denim Yarn Wang Gang stated that the blend of long and short fibers produces a natural-fiber texture while delivering high first-pass production quality.

Supporting future textile innovation

The China debut of TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 represents another step in Lenzing’s innovation strategy. The company believes the fiber will support higher-value textile development and strengthen collaboration across the global supply chain.

Detailed specifications, application guidance, and certification information are available through Lenzing Pro, the company’s digital platform designed for supply chain partners.

Key characteristics of the fiber include:

  • Linear density: 1.7 dtex

  • Luster: Semi-dull matte finish

  • Staple length: High variation enabled by Variocut technology

  • Blending flexibility with standard TENCEL™ Lyocell or cotton

From an environmental perspective, the fiber offers at least 50% lower carbon emissions and water consumption compared with generic lyocell fibers, according to company data. The raw materials are sourced from FSC® or PEFC-certified wood, while manufacturing uses a closed-loop process with over 99.8% solvent recovery.

Current applications include denim fabrics, bottom-weight woven apparel, and shirting, with further developments expected across additional textile categories.
