Maahi Milk Producer Organisation (Maahi MPO) has introduced GauSort, an indigenous gender-sorted semen technology developed to support dairy farmers in improving livestock quality, increasing milk production, and enhancing farm incomes.

The initiative was launched by Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman of National Dairy Development Board and NDDB Dairy Services, in the presence of Maahi MPO’s board members.

Developed in India by the National Dairy Development Board with support from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, GauSort is an affordable gender-sorted semen technology implemented under the National Gokul Mission. The technology is designed to increase the probability of female calf births, helping farmers build stronger dairy herds and improve long-term milk productivity.

By enabling the birth of a higher proportion of female calves with desirable genetic traits, GauSort is expected to contribute to improved breed quality, increased milk output, and greater profitability for dairy farmers.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Meenesh Shah described GauSort as a significant step towards scientific livestock management and self-reliant dairy development. He noted that wider adoption of the technology can improve genetic quality, boost productivity, and support the sustainable growth of the dairy sector.

The implementation of GauSort will be supported technically by NDDB Dairy Services, which will assist in expanding access to the technology and related livestock services.

Maahi MPO will deliver the GauSort service through its existing Maahi Pashu Seva programme, a doorstep veterinary healthcare initiative that provides services related to animal health, breeding, nutrition, and livestock management. The programme uses a digital platform to maintain animal health records and ensure timely veterinary support for farmers.

Currently serving thousands of milk-producing farmers, Maahi Pashu Seva has been instrumental in promoting scientific livestock management practices, improving animal health, and increasing productivity across Maahi MPO’s operational areas.

With the introduction of GauSort through this established service network, Maahi MPO aims to help farmer members adopt advanced breeding technologies, improve herd quality, and create more sustainable livelihood opportunities through dairy farming.
