In order to protect human and environmental health, Matter created Regen.TM for Textile Production, a capture technology that eliminates microfibres from the textile manufacturing process.

Paradise Textiles and Matter are working together on Matter’s technology research and application for textile manufacturing. The scalable technology provides a solution for the textile sector by lowering operational costs and microfibre emissions for textile facilities through retrofitting.

Supported by Regeneration.VC, the climate tech fund with backing from Leonardo DiCaprio, the news was made at its annual meeting during New York Climate Week.

By Q4 2025, the first installation is anticipated at the sustainable textile facility of Paradise Textiles in Egypt.

September 30, 2024, Singapore. The material science and innovation hub of the Alpine Group, Paradise Textiles, and the British climate tech company Matter have announced a ground-breaking partnership to commercialize Matter’s Regen.TM for Textile Production, the first microfibre filter made especially for textile manufacturers. By addressing the pressing problem of worldwide microfibre contamination, this innovative technology seeks to redefine sustainable practices in the textile sector.

Regen.TM for Textile Production, developed by Matter, is a significant breakthrough in environmentally friendly textile production. During the textile manufacturing process, microfibres are effectively removed by this innovative filter. It uses Matter’s unique self-cleaning filtering technology to provide an efficient, low-cost microfibre capture system that filters wastewater without releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Additionally, the method lowers running costs dramatically, extends the life of water reuse systems, and uses less chemicals. A single production facility could reduce carbon emissions by nearly 2000 tonnes of CO2 and save up to 3 million kilowatt-hours annually by capturing over 90 tonnes of microfibres*.

In cooperation with Paradise Textiles, Regen.TM for Textile Production is now in the research and development stage and should be installed by Q4 2025 at Paradise Textiles’ brand-new, cutting-edge low impact fabric mill in Egypt. When it’s up and running, it will operate as a demonstration of the technology for companies & manufacturers eager to use the new filter.

With BSH, under the brands Bosch and Siemens, Matter introduced a successful microfibre filter for household laundry systems. This announcement expands on that success. Matter who raised $10 S2G Ventures, SOUNDwaves, and Regeneration are among the investors supporting them in their 2023 Series A fundraising round, totaling million.VC is the Leonardo DiCaprio-backed climate tech fund.

During Regeneration.VC’s Annual Meeting held during New York Climate Week, Matter and Paradise unveiled Regen.TM for Textile Production and discussed their partnership. Regen.TM for Textile Production is a ground-breaking solution that can reduce microfibre pollution in all 150,000 global textile factories—estimated to be 20% of the world’s clean water pollution.

Due to the fact that microplastic contamination is becoming more and more prevalent in our water, air, soil, and food sources, microfibre shedding is a major contributing factor to this problem. Disturbing research has shown that microplastics penetrate the human body and are associated with a number of major health problems, such as chronic illnesses and respiratory problems. There is an immediate need for industry transformation because the production, dying, and washing of textiles contributes approximately 120,000 tonnes of microfiber emissions annually to the worldwide textile manufacturing business.

Matter’s industrial program for textile manufacture has advanced thanks in large part to Paradise Textiles’ cooperation. As an end-to-end fashion supply chain partner, Paradise Textiles, a division of the Alpine Group, saw the revolutionary potential of Matter’s technology for the textile sector and aggressively pursued a partnership with Matter. Setting the scene for this ground-breaking partnership, Paradise worked closely with Matter, utilizing their knowledge of textiles and reducing fiber pollution, to investigate how this breakthrough could be modified and expanded within the textile production industry. They have contributed to early research, given insights into textile processes, and shaped Matter’s Microfibre Assessment Program (MAP) over the past 2.5 years in order to create a service model and optimize fiber capture throughout Alpine Group’s facilities. The North Face, Lululemon, American Eagle Outfitters, Puma, and other well-known brands are among the products made by Alpine Group, a significant manufacturer of clothing and materials. With more than 15 locations across the globe, Alpine embodies the diversity of the clothing sector.

Matter’s founder and CEO, Adam Root, stated: “We are thrilled to work with Paradise Textiles on this innovative project. It will show the fashion sector that there is a workable solution available to address the enormous issue of microplastic pollution. Working on this initiative together to cap microfiber pollution from textile production and push further, much-needed change towards a circular solution is an exciting next step after co-founding the microfiber Assessment Programme (MAP), which is already benefiting the rest of the industry.

“At Paradise we are committed to collaborating with industry innovators and brands to make a material difference for the future of the fashion and textile industry,” stated Lewis Shuler, Head of Innovation at Paradise Textiles. A true game-changer for the textile and clothing sector, Matter’s Microfibre filter offers us an efficient approach to lessen the environmental impact of the manufacturing process while simultaneously cutting operational expenses. We are eager to move this fascinating initiative along and investigate fresh approaches to integrating sustainable technology that have the potential to drastically alter the sector.”
