Mumbai Hosts Awareness Workshop on Jute Mark India Scheme

The Textiles Committee, under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, successfully organized an Awareness Workshop under the Jute Mark India (JMI) Scheme on March 10, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Mumbai International Airport in Mumbai.

The workshop was led by Shri Kartikay Dhanda, Secretary, Textiles Committee, Government of India, and Dr. K.S. Muralidhara, Joint Director & Program Head. The primary objective was to raise awareness and provide key insights into the JMI Scheme, which aims to promote and safeguard the interests of the jute industry.

The event was graced by Shri Sanjay Waman Sawakare, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of improving product quality, promoting jute products, and implementing policies aligned with the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). He also highlighted the need for R&D, self-sustainability, and the promotion of “Made in India” products.

Among the distinguished attendees was Smt. Roop Rashi, Textile Commissioner & Vice Chairperson of the Textiles Committee, whose presence added significance to the event.

About the Jute Mark India Scheme

Launched on July 9, 2022, by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the Jute Mark India (JMI) Scheme aims to promote and authenticate jute products in both domestic and international markets. A unique traceable QR code is provided along with the Jute Mark logo to registered users, facilitating market linkage for artisans and manufacturers globally. The Textiles Committee serves as the nodal agency responsible for the scheme’s implementation across India.

Workshop Objectives

The workshop was designed to educate artisans, self-help groups, manufacturers of diversified jute products, responsible citizens, and other stakeholders about the JMI Scheme. It aimed to ensure market accessibility for grassroots stakeholders and enhance the recognition and commercial viability of eco-friendly and sustainable jute products.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. K.S. Muralidhara, Joint Director, Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
