NIFT Mumbai students marked an important milestone at the NIFT Joint Convocation 2026. The event took place on 31 August 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi.
A total of 315 students from NIFT Mumbai took part in the ceremony. Graduating students from 18 NIFT campuses also attended the event.
The ceremony celebrated their academic success. It also marked the start of their professional journeys.
President Droupadi Murmu Graces the Event
The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh also attended the ceremony. Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao was present as well.
NIFT Director General Smt. Tanu Kashyap, IAS, also joined the event. Directors of NIFT campuses and other senior officials were present.
President Highlights Indian Crafts
President Droupadi Murmu congratulated the graduating students. She asked them to compete in global markets while staying close to India’s culture.
She also praised NIFT’s Craft Cluster Initiative. The initiative helps weavers and artisans with modern design and market support.
The President also spoke about sustainable design. She asked students to use local materials and reduce textile waste.
She encouraged the graduates to support traditional artisans. She also urged them to help build Viksit Bharat 2047.
NIFT Mumbai Students Receive Awards
The ceremony also recognised the achievements of NIFT Mumbai students.
Students received awards for academic success, creativity and innovation. They were also recognised for their professional skills.
NIFT Mumbai students received:
- 10 gold medal awards
- 31 graduation show awards
- 16 meritorious awards
These awards recognised the hard work and talent of the students.
Focus on Skills and New Opportunities
Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh urged students to dream big. He also asked them to work hard and support India’s growth.
Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao congratulated the graduates. She encouraged them to keep learning and improve their skills.
The textile and fashion sectors are changing quickly. As a result, new career opportunities are emerging for skilled graduates.
NIFT Graduates Begin Their Careers
During the ceremony, NIFT Director General Smt. Tanu Kashyap administered the pledge to the graduates. She also symbolically conferred their degrees.
After the main ceremony, degree distribution events were held at individual NIFT campuses. Students could then receive their degrees with their academic communities.
The NIFT Joint Convocation 2026 marked a new chapter for the graduates. It also highlighted NIFT’s focus on creativity, innovation and sustainability.
The graduating students will now begin their careers in fashion, textiles and other creative fields.
