Nuyarn and Unknown Runner Launch Ultralight Merino Trail Running Collection
The new Courser Collection combines advanced Nuyarn wool technology with lightweight performance apparel designed for demanding trail running conditions.
Nuyarn® Technologies, a specialist in high-performance yarn and fabric innovation, has partnered with Arizona-based performance apparel brand Unknown Runner to introduce the Courser Collection, an ultralight merino wool apparel system engineered specifically for trail runners.
Designed for hot and unpredictable outdoor conditions, the debut collection features a 115 gsm merino blend fabric comprising 63% merino wool, 29% polyester and 8% nylon. The open-knit construction delivers natural temperature regulation, effective moisture management, odour resistance and next-to-skin comfort, making it suitable for high-intensity runs and everyday outdoor adventures.
At the core of the collection is Nuyarn’s proprietary drafting technology, which wraps merino wool around a nylon filament to produce a yarn that is lighter, dries faster and offers greater long-term durability than conventional wool yarns. Combined with polyester knitting, the technology creates an ultralight fabric that enhances breathability, accelerates drying and maintains consistent performance in demanding environments.
According to Monica Ebert, Vice President of Sales at Nuyarn, the partnership demonstrates how advanced wool technology can redefine performance apparel for trail running. She noted that the company’s technology delivers up to five times faster drying and eight times greater durability, offering significant performance benefits for athletes.
Alex Mette, Founder of Unknown Runner, said the brand continuously seeks the highest-performing merino fabrics and selected Nuyarn as its technology partner because of its focus on performance innovation. He added that the collaboration enables Unknown Runner to deliver lightweight apparel that meets the demands of serious trail runners while maintaining the natural benefits of merino wool.
The partnership reflects the growing demand for high-performance natural fibre technologies in the outdoor and sportswear market, where lightweight construction, moisture management, durability and comfort continue to drive product innovation.
