NORFOLK, VirginiaParamount Sleep Co. began a year-long celebration of its 90th anniversary at the beginning of the new year.

To celebrate the milestone, the business is organizing a number of events, such as special events at the High Point and Las Vegas markets and monthly retail promotions centered around the new Paramount 90th Anniversary Special collection.

The Comess family established the upscale mattress company here in 1935 during the Great Depression, and it is currently run by third-generation owner and managing director Richard Diamonstein. Richard’s grandpa, Albert Diamonstein, joined the business in 1936, one year after it was established.

Arthur Diamonstein became the second generation of Diamonsteins associated with Paramount when he joined the company in 1952. Decades later, when Arthur’s two sons, Richard and Jamie Diamonstein, entered the industry, the legacy was established. In 1986, the Diamonstein family acquired complete ownership of the business. In 2015, Jamie Diamonstein departed the company to launch Leesa, which 3Z Brands later purchased in 2023.

Then, after 16 years as senior vice president of sales, Richard Fleck was named president. In addition to being the current head of the Mattress Recycling Council and the former chairman of the International Sleep Products Association, Richard Diamonstein also held a number of executive positions. His son, Eric Diamonstein, is now the fourth generation to work for the company, serving on the board.

“For ninety years and four generations, we have been guided by our core founding values: people, product, process, and planet,” Fleck stated. And we will be guided by these principles for many generations to come. We’ll keep up our exemplary stewardship of our community and industry.

In addition to its long history of creativity and workmanship, Paramount Sleep is renowned in the sector for its continuous dedication to using eco-friendly materials. It was among the first to employ eco-friendly materials for upholstery cushions, such as cotton, wool, and other natural fibers, as well as recycled bottle content. The business concentrates on reducing shipping distances, which lowers CO2 emissions, by procuring materials as locally as possible and producing all of its goods in the United States.

Energy-efficient lighting, a conveyor system, and contemporary machinery are used in Paramount Sleep’s Norfolk facility to produce high-quality craftsmanship. Production-related scraps are bailed and transported for recycling in order to be used again.

Diamonstein received the first Distinguished Service Award from the Paramount Sleep the Mattress Recycling Council for his leadership and work creating state recycling systems around the country.

The Paramount Sleep showroom C-1595, which is shared with Purecare and Knickerbocker, will host the start of the year-long 90th anniversary celebration at the Winter Las Vegas Market.
