Industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators converge at PHDCCI’s conference to chart India’s pathway to global textile leadership through Man-Made Fibres.
The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) successfully hosted a pivotal conference, “The Future of Textiles: Challenges and Opportunities in Man-Made Fibres,” at PHD House, New Delhi. The event gathered prominent industry pioneers, policymakers, and key stakeholders to discuss strategic advancements and unlock the immense potential of the Man-Made Fibre (MMF) sector—recognized as a cornerstone for India’s textile future.
The conference commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Madhu Sudhan Bhageria, Chair of the PHDCCI Textile Committee and CMD of Filatex India Ltd. Emphasizing the urgent need for a resilient and sustainable fibre ecosystem, Mr. Bhageria highlighted China’s dominance in polyester production and called for a cohesive, future-focused strategy to strengthen India’s MMF capabilities.
Mr. Ashok Malhotra, Mission Director of the National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM), graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote address. He stressed the importance of accelerating India’s growth in MMF to achieve global competitiveness and underscored the significant opportunities within technical textiles. Mr. Malhotra also outlined NTTM’s initiatives to foster indigenous manufacturing, boost innovation, and expand India’s footprint in emerging export markets.
Providing valuable industry perspectives, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, President & COO of BMD Private Limited, explored the challenges posed by a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) global market. Mr. Rajeev Gupta, Joint Managing Director of RSWM Ltd., delivered a powerful message on India’s potential to significantly expand its MMF fibre base to meet ambitious export targets. He emphasized the critical alignment needed between private sector innovation and government support.
On the regulatory front, Mr. Jitender Kumar Gupta, Head – TXD & Scientist – E at the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), stressed the importance of standardization and compliance through Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and the BIS Standard Mark, ensuring that India’s MMF sector meets global quality benchmarks.
The conference featured a wide array of expert insights from speakers including Mr. Prashant Agarwal (Wazir Advisors), Mr. Raman Dutta (Brands & Sourcing Leaders Association), Mr. Yatee Gupta (Fabiosys Innovations Pvt. Ltd.), Mr. Arpan B. Kharva (Textile Engineering Scholar), Mr. Sudhir K. Verma (KNIT EXPERTS INDIA), Ms. Ruma Kinger (Waste2Wear Pvt. Ltd.), and Mr. Abrar Ahmad (SYAAHI Uniforms). Their discussions spanned innovation, sustainability, and advancements across the MMF value chain.
Delivering the theme address was Mr. Naveen Seth, Deputy Secretary General, PHDCCI, while Mr. Rakesh Sangrai, Director, PHDCCI, skillfully moderated both the inaugural and technical sessions. Over 80 dynamic delegates participated actively, engaging in high-level discussions that enriched the dialogue.
