Real estate leaders have urged the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to maintain a status quo on the repo rate at its October Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. They said stable interest rates could support homebuyer confidence and property demand during the festive quarter.
Mr. Suresh H. A., Managing Director, Sanjeevini Group, said a 25 basis point repo rate hike could affect housing affordability. He urged the RBI to maintain the existing rate in October.
According to Suresh H. A., even a small rise in home loan rates could influence purchase decisions. First-time buyers and mid-income buyers could be more sensitive to higher borrowing costs.
He also noted that property values have increased across several residential markets. Stable interest rates, he said, could help sustain buyer confidence during the festive sales period.
Mr. Lalit Parihar, Managing Director, Aaiji Group, also called for a stable repo rate in October. He said a rate hike could raise the overall cost of property acquisition and financing.
Parihar added that emerging real estate destinations depend on infrastructure growth and long-term investment confidence. He said policy stability could support demand for residential and plotted developments.
Both industry leaders highlighted the importance of stable borrowing costs as the festive quarter approaches. Their comments come as homebuyers continue to assess property prices, financing costs and future investment prospects.
