Reliance Industries Limited’s R|Elan™ presented designer Payal Pratap’s latest collection, ‘Memories Pressed in Time’, at Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI 2026, highlighting the fusion of sustainability, advanced textile innovation, and artistic storytelling.
Built on R|Elan™’s next-generation fibre technologies, the collection demonstrated how performance-driven, responsible materials can be transformed into contemporary fashion with a strong design narrative. The showcase reflected the brand’s commitment to innovation, circularity, and sustainable fabric solutions.
Inspired by personal memories and nature, the collection draws deeply from Payal Pratap’s childhood experiences surrounded by gardens, plants, and seasonal changes. Botanical elements such as leaves and foliage formed the core design language, translated into prints, textures, and intricate surface detailing across denim garments.
The collection positions denim as a living canvas, evolving with time and wear. Through cyanotype-inspired prints, tonal embroidery, patchwork, and washed finishes, the garments capture impressions of nature while reflecting the passage of time. Leaves, stems, and floral motifs appear as though pressed into indigo surfaces, creating a visual narrative reminiscent of preserved botanical studies.
Silhouettes featured relaxed and oversized denim forms, including jackets, skirts, gilets, and dresses, designed for comfort and everyday wear. Textural detailing such as appliqué pleats, quilting, and distressed finishes added depth, giving each piece a lived-in, organic feel.
Speaking about the collection, Payal Pratap shared that her inspiration stems from childhood memories shaped by her mother’s gardens, with prints derived from real leaves and foliage. These were translated into artworks and applied through digital and laser printing techniques on denim.
Hemant D. Sharma, President – Polyester at Reliance Industries Limited, highlighted that R|Elan™ continues to drive sustainable innovation through advanced fibre science and responsible manufacturing. He noted that the collaboration with designers like Payal Pratap demonstrates how sustainability can seamlessly integrate with contemporary aesthetics and craftsmanship.
Adding to the sustainability narrative, the runway design itself stood out as a key feature. Created using recycled PET bottles and repurposed denim scraps, the installation featured a dramatic textile canopy, reinforcing the collection’s commitment to circularity and resource efficiency.
The R|Elan™ x Payal Pratap showcase underscored the evolving role of sustainable materials in fashion, presenting denim not just as a fabric, but as a storytelling medium that evolves with time, memory, and human experience.
