The Renewable Materials Conference (RMC) has officially released its final program, setting the stage for one of the most influential global gatherings in the renewable carbon economy. Organised by the nova-Institute, the conference will take place from September 22–24, 2026, in Siegburg near Cologne.
Expected to attract 400–500 participants from across the globe, the event will bring together innovators, brands, investors, policymakers, and researchers to explore solutions for transitioning away from fossil-based resources. Recognised as a leading platform in this domain, the conference will highlight advancements in bioeconomy, carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), and recycling, all contributing to the defossilisation of chemicals and materials.
This year’s central theme, “Defossilisation through innovation,” will be explored through a comprehensive agenda featuring 80 presentations, over 20 panel discussions, 16 workshops, and a large exhibition area designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Conference Highlights
The three-day event will focus on key industry themes:
- Day 1: Defossilisation of the chemical industry, including renewable carbon strategies, speciality chemicals, lignin, and CO₂ utilisation
- Day 2: Fossil-free plastics, covering bio-based polymers, coatings, adhesives, recycled plastics, and applications across automotive, textiles, packaging, and consumer goods
- Day 3: Policy frameworks and future strategies, including biodegradation, market development, and system solutions
The conference will also feature 16 interactive workshops, each designed for focused discussions among smaller groups of participants, encouraging deeper engagement on topics such as policy, carbon footprint, and emerging technologies.
Exhibition & Networking
An exhibition with around 40 booths spread across two floors will showcase the latest innovations in renewable carbon materials. The event will also include extended networking opportunities, evening events, and matchmaking tools to facilitate meaningful industry connections.
Innovation Award Spotlight
A major highlight of the event is the “Renewable Material of the Year 2026” award, sponsored by Covestro. Six shortlisted innovations will be presented during the conference, with attendees voting live to determine the top three winners.
Participation & Opportunities
Companies and organisations still have opportunities to participate through workshops, exhibitions, sponsorships, and poster presentations. Early bird registration with a 10% discount is available until August 16, 2026.
The conference is supported by leading organisations including European Bioplastics, Plastics Europe, and the Renewable Carbon Initiative, among others.
With its strong focus on innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, the Renewable Materials Conference 2026 is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of renewable chemicals and materials worldwide.
