Sherwin-Williams brands highlight natural materials, earthy colours and refreshed furnishings as homeowners seek calmer, more personal interiors.
Restorative Minimalism is emerging as a key home design trend for winter 2026. The trend focuses on comfort, natural materials and meaningful décor, according to the 2026 Winter Décor Trend Report from Dutch Boy Paints, Krylon, Minwax and Purdy.
The report, developed by the Sherwin-Williams Trendsight Team, highlights a growing interest in caring for existing belongings rather than constantly replacing them. Craftsmanship, organic textures and nature-inspired colours are central to this approach.
Earthy Colours Create Calm Interiors
Dutch Boy Paints’ Essence palette from its 2027 Color Trends Forecast supports the trend with warm, earthy shades. These include Deep Rooted (311-7DB), the brand’s 2027 Color of the Year, alongside Antique White (011W) and Western Orange (209-4DB).
The colours work with natural wood, soft textiles and simple decorative accents. Together, they create interiors that feel warm and personal without appearing overly styled.
Decorative Finishes Refresh Existing Décor
The trend also encourages homeowners to update furniture and accessories through paint and decorative finishes. Krylon shades such as Matte Spanish Moss, Satin Brown Boots and Matte Coffee Bean offer nature-inspired options. Satin Ivory provides a softer contrast, while Desert Sand and Golden Glow add texture and subtle shine.
These finishes can refresh existing furnishings and seasonal decorations. For holiday styling, the report suggests using Desert Sand on ornaments and Golden Glow on selected accents. Greenery and deeper brown tones can complete the look.
Restorative Minimalism combines simplicity with warmth, craftsmanship and everyday practicality. By working with existing possessions and natural finishes, homeowners can create comfortable spaces that feel personal and connected to nature.
