In the Loop is a LinkedIn series where retail experts offer their hot takes on the greatest difficulties facing the fashion business. Source is one of Europe’s top responsible sourcing fairs for fashion, home, gift, and garden.
Every episode will explore a fresh crucial subject and present the opinions of influential people on potential solutions. For the next six weeks, a new episode will be released every Tuesday.
“What can the new UK government do to drive sustainability forward?” is the question posed by Source in Episode 1. Learn what Anna Pabissi, Caryn Franklin, Mike Coates, Jo Mourant, and Nick Beighton think about what true sustainability looks like and how policy may set the example.
“I believe it’s education,” says Caryn Franklin MBE, a fashion and identity commentator. We must return to the fundamentals. It must be implemented correctly in schools. It must be included in public education movies. Every brand must include it in the dialogue they have with their target audiences. Governments must become more knowledgeable about the policies they must enact.
“We’d love for the government to read our advice that we sent in two years ago, which is about trying to establish clearer definitions for certain terms and also making unsubstantiated environmental claims a banned practice,” says Mike Coates, assistant director of the Competitions and Markets Authority.
