The State of Counterfeiting in India 2025 report has updated its product category nomenclature from “pharmaceuticals” to “healthcare products” to better represent the broader range of products covered in its consumer survey.
The revision follows a detailed review of survey responses, which showed that participants associated the category with a wide variety of healthcare-related products rather than prescription medicines alone.
The updated “healthcare products” category now includes:
- Medical devices
- Pharmaceuticals and medicines
- Nutraceuticals
- Over-the-counter (OTC) products available through pharmacy retail
According to the report, the revised terminology more accurately reflects how consumers perceive and interact with healthcare and wellness products in their daily lives.
The update ensures that the report’s findings align with the actual scope of products presented during the consumer and industry surveys. While the category name has changed, the underlying survey data, analysis, and findings remain unchanged.
By adopting the broader “healthcare products” nomenclature, the report aims to provide stakeholders with clearer insights into consumer experiences and perceptions regarding counterfeit products across the healthcare ecosystem.
The change also improves the relevance of the report for policymakers, industry participants, healthcare companies, and consumers by better representing the diverse product segments covered during the research.
