Indian Potash Limited (IPL) is promoting sustainable sugarcane farming in Gujarat. The initiative aims to save water, improve crop yields and increase farmers’ income.
On July 8, 2026, IPL signed an agreement with Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL). The two companies will promote drip irrigation in sugarcane fields. They will also provide farmer training and conduct field demonstrations. In addition, they will help farmers access available loans and subsidies for micro-irrigation.
IPL has also partnered with UPL Sustainable Agri Solutions. The three-year agreement covers around 2,000 acres in the Kodinar Sugar Mill command area. The programme aims to increase sugarcane productivity by at least 15%. It will focus on soil health, crop protection, nutrient management and digital farming tools.
The company is also promoting the ‘10 Ts of Sugarcane Excellence’. These practices include quality seeds, timely planting and weed management. IPL also encourages farmers to follow the 6R principles of nutrient management. These principles support balanced fertiliser use and better water management.
In July 2026, IPL held a workshop for more than 350 farmers in Kodinar, Gujarat. Experts from Jain Irrigation explained drip irrigation and crop management techniques. They also discussed the benefits of maintaining four-foot row spacing.
According to the company, drip irrigation can reduce water use by 40–60% under suitable conditions. It can also improve productivity by 20–40%.
Meanwhile, IPL is working to revive and modernise cooperative sugar mills in Kodinar, Talala and Valsad. These efforts aim to strengthen sugarcane production in Gujarat.
Through these initiatives, IPL is promoting efficient water use and better farming practices. The company aims to improve farmers’ income and support the sugar and biofuel sectors.
